Tribute from Richard and Shirley

Peter Clark

A good friend, a musician and just, such a nice guy!  Smiled a lot, laughed often, but had a serious side with a long-term commitment to Rotary and its charities.  Peter played an instrument and sang from early in life and his enthusiasm led him to play multiple instruments.  This led to his music room being filled from top to bottom, from Hammond Organ, to flute, via banjo etc.  It was an obstacle course, and a place of danger … well nearly, but we all avoided injury!

I knew him first during his association with a band called Gentle Jazz, and even then, he was writing and arranging some tunes for the band “Samba for Sue” springs to mind … you can guess the inspiration.  On his retirement, his enthusiasm led him to join a course at City Lit in London, formally studying music and arranging. Later he studied the software Sibelius so that he could produce arrangements for a big band.

He encountered Annie’s rehearsal band, and perhaps, because of his time in Africa as a young man, he became enthusiastic about their repertoire of music from that part of the world.   He soon produced several arrangements for them.  On his musical journey from Skiffle, through a range of styles of Jazz and on to African music, he took them all seriously, studied and played them with enthusiasm. Most of all, he enjoyed them all and helped others to do so too.

Shirley and I will miss him.
